Boom reefing upgrades on a 1990 Catalina 27

I just picked up a neat and sleek 1990 Catalina 27 (tall rig with the updated boom) and I'm looking to simplify sail handling a bit. Basically I've been thinking of adding a single-line reefing setup, a vang, and routing the outhaul aft to the cockpit. The boom hasn't been touched yet, so I'd rather do it right the first time. Any of you already did a similar upgrade and have some tips? Would appreciate any input. TIA.

Thats actually a decent plan, do it while the boom's untouched. I suggest you use a single line reefing kit , add a rigid vang for control, and run the outhaul aft with lowstretch line through deck organizers and a clutch. Use quality hardware to handle the load. Good luck

Also I feel you should reinforce the boom where needed before drilling anything and go for quality blocks and lines or you'll be redoing it in a season and yeah, I'm with @M0nster , do it now the boom is untouched
