Mast foot question

I actually just want to know what the foot of the mast should look like? Is a little bit of movement to be expected because has got me thinking again about somethings. I have a '02 Catalina 36 and it has a bit of wear around the base plate and I can see some movement when the rig loads up under sail

Should I be pulling things apart before it turns into a bigger headache?
Would love your thoughts and suggestions

Movement at the base of a Catalina 36 mast is not unusual, but it should be minor and steady. The mast usually rests in a socket or on a plate, and though some flex is normal when sailing, any obvious shifting or damage may suggest problems like compression or water getting in. Older models have had issues if the wood beneath the deck rots, especially if water can't drain. If you notice wear or movement, check under the mast for signs of moisture, weak spots, or cracks in the floor.

First, check if the turnbuckles are maxed out or if the rig tension is uneven. This can exaggerate mast base movement. Noticed alignment changes or trouble tuning the rig? Document the mast base condition now. Plan a teardown during haul-out to avoid future structural issues. Tell me what sailing conditions cause the movement. @Boss rex
