Catalina 36 fuel burn rate

After thinking about it for so long, I bought a Catalina 36 with the 32-gallon tank and I'm planning some longer trips soon. I would appreciate rough estimates on how much diesel it'll burn per hour at around half throttle. I'm trying to understand my range before anything else.

Congrats on the new boat! Getting that fuel range dialed in is a wise first step before any long trip. For a ballpark figure, most of those boats with the Universal M-25XP engine will burn about half a gallon an hour at a cruising RPM of 2400, but is that the engine in your C36?

At half throttle, figure around 0.5 to 0.75 gallons per hour, give or take depending on load and sea state so with a 32 gallon tank, you're looking at roughly 40 to 60 hours of motoring if things are running smooth. Always good to leave a buffer

I really appreciate these numbers, they take me back to my old Pearson 33. I remember not having a clue about my range on those first long runs, and I definitely overestimated it by a significant amount. Half a gallon an hour seems spot on for your setup, though. It's also a good idea to double-check which motor you have in there.
